Environmental Geoscience

What we do

We provide Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) services for utility mapping and concrete scanning throughout mid and north Vancouver Island.  We’re part of BC One Call and offer services for the construction, real estate, landscaping, excavating and engineering industries.

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) uses electromagnetic energy to locate the position of buried utility services.  This technology is nondestructive and provides real-time results and little downtime. The location and target depth of a utility can be estimated instantly, which is marked clearly on scanned surface.

Utility Locating

With our Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and EM units we are able to locate and confirm the presence of buried pipes (water, sewer, sanitary, gas) and cables conduits (telephone and data, fiber optic).

We can also locate irrigation pipes, buried storage tanks, oil tanks, septic tanks. Using our GPR we can ‘see’ down to approximately 22′ (depending on soil type), and can locate landfill boundaries, water table depth, and abandoned mine shafts. we can also determine changes in soil fill, or ground water salinity.

Concrete Scanning

GPR is used widely for assessing the interior of concrete floors, decks, columns, walls and ceilings to locate embedded rebar and wire mesh, post tension cables, metallic and non-metallic conduits, water pipes, and power cables – and is essential to ensure safety and to avoid costly mistakes. Our call out charge often covers an unexpected repair cost and saves downtime.

Underground Storage Tanks

If you plan on buying a house that was built prior to the mid 70’s or you are suspicious that an Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) might exist on your property please get in touch and arrange a scan. If we find a UST or suspect there is potential for a UST we will locate is position so that a contractor can remove the tank.
